Sharing with your community: the Buy Nothing Project

Here at Zero Waste ME, we firmly believe that reducing waste is a community effort and that one of the best ways to reduce waste is to share resources.

Did your zucchini plant go into overdrive? Does your kid have a closet full of clothes that you have outgrown? Do you have cans of house paint that you’ll never use? Any of these items – and much much more – could be used by your community instead of going to waste.

And there are many items that we need only rarely- power tools, recreational equipment, specialized cooking items, etc. What if we didn’t all each own one ourselves, but instead could pool our resources and share what we have with each other? How much money would you save? How much less storage space would you need? How much better would you know your neighbors?

We offer people a way to give and receive, share, lend, and express gratitude through a worldwide network of hyper-local gift economies in which the true wealth is the web of connections formed between people who are real-life neighbors.
